The six files combined contain information on over 575,000 spatially verified water well records. The six files are intended to provide water well information for wells in counties clustered by geographic region: Upper Peninsula, Northern Lower Peninsula, East Central Lower Peninsula, West Central Lower Peninsula, Southwest Lower Peninsula and the South Central – Southeastern Lower Peninsula. The files are constructed to be easily merged, containing the same number and type of attribute fields.&lt;/SPAN&gt;&lt;/SPAN&gt;&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;&lt;SPAN&gt;&lt;SPAN&gt;Although the derived data in these files represents the best readily available data, the six files do not represent a complete database of all wells or well records in existence. Until January 1, 2000 not all water well records for new wells in Michigan were entered into Wellogic. For wells drilled before 2000 the rate of inclusion is highly variable from one county to another. Further, there is a quality control check on location that may exclude a limited number of wells from Wellogic from the six files made available on this site.&lt;/SPAN&gt;&lt;/SPAN&gt;&lt;/P&gt;&lt;/DIV&gt;&lt;/DIV&gt;&lt;/DIV&gt;</idAbs>
<idPurp>The data has been published to provide regulators, consultants and the public extensive information that can be used in the study, analysis and management of Michigan's ground water resources. The dataset represents the single greatest collection of ground water information available and includes water well construction details and estimates of aquifer hydraulic characteristics based upon that information throughout Michigan.</idPurp>

<measDesc>The source data for this dataset comes from Wellogic. Wellogic is an automated database for the entering and storing of ground water data as it relates to the construction of water wells throughout Michigan. The Wellogic program source code has a considerable number of quality assurance and quality control checks on the data as it is entered into the system that assure a basal degree of accuracy, completeness of records and reliability. Some of the data such as that associated with lithologic descriptions is subject to interpretation and may therefore carry with it inherent uncertainty. There has been no check for duplication of geographic elements within the dataset. In fact, random searches of the dataset in the regular course of data utilization and analysis have disclosed the presence of duplicate geographic elements such as the multiple entry of singular well records. Where duplications are disclosed every effort is made to combine the duplicates into one all encompassing record and the subsequent deletion/elimination of duplicate records.</measDesc>

Well point locations based upon GPS data can have positional accuracies of + or minus 3 meters. Some well point locations have been established via review and placement of wells on aerial photos. Other methods of assigning location such as address matching, classical surveying or the assignment of the well location to the center of a section may be off by as much as 750 meters.</measDesc>
